VISUAL ABSTRACT ART

BIO
Francesca Melotti completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Architecture at the University of Parma, Italy. She worked in different architecture studios in Modena, Florence, and Berlin, focusing on renovation, interior design and exhibition projects.
After moving to Berlin in 2016, she developed her painting practice through improvisation, alongside her career in architecture. Exploring her passion, she came to recognize what had always been present in her process: a meditative and intuitive approach to painting that brought her to inner spaces of reflection—on the body, the mind and the outer world.
She began creating photography-inspired abstract landscapes in early 2019. Over time, her intuition led her practice to become more abstract and experimental, using a variety of tools—from spatulas to pieces of wood, and eventually her own body. She often uses her hands and parts of her arms to throw and smear the acrylic paint. Her creative process incorporates sound, allowing sensory perception to influence her subconscious expression.
Along her artistic journey, she embraced a consistent yoga practice that deepened her connection with her inner instinct and opened the way to a more meditative approach to life. This practice became a guiding force, grounding her in the values she chooses to follow. In 2024, she became a certified Vinyasa and Restorative yoga teacher. Today, she continues to explore the intersection between art and yoga—two paths that merge and create new spaces of observation, open to multiple interpretations.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Francesca Melotti’s artistic practice is a journey that weaves together inner exploration and perception of the external world, engaging in a continuous dialogue between the visible and the invisible. She sees creation as an act of crossing boundaries, redefining limits, and embracing shifting perspectives.
For her, the canvas becomes a space of meditation and transformation, where reality is reshaped through personal interpretation. Art is both a mirror and a distance—an experience of immersion and detachment. Each work represents a passage, an invitation to enter the unknown. Creating becomes an ongoing search, a process of opening up to what has yet to be discovered.
She does not usually feel the need to explain her work, as it emerges from a spontaneous flow she intuitively follows. While she may occasionally reflect on the work during the process, deeper insights often surface afterwards, revealing fragments of the subconscious. She prefers to leave interpretation open, allowing space for individual perception, thought, and imagination to shape new meanings—acknowledging that nothing is fixed, and everything remains in motion.
